Lycogel Camouflage Foundation

22/02/2017

I am a huge fan of Lycogel for many reasons. This silica (crushed quartz) based camouflage is unbelievably healing. Lycogel Camouflage Foundation is the first truly breathable makeup that enhances the skin's appearance and condition, this triple-silica-gel based foundation contains Lycogel Complex, a patented formula proven to increase oxygen and stimulate healthy new skin cells. Lycogel produces a light, velvety second-skin effect, virtually concealing acne, psoriasis, rosacea and other sensitive skin conditions while soothing and protecting the skin. Lycogel, the first breathable colour corrective treatment that combines cosmetic and skincare technology to promote post-procedure healing, soothe sensitive skin, rejuvenate and camouflage at the same time. It’s important to apply moisturiser before applying the Lycogel which distributes the camouflage makeup well.

Lycogel Breathable Camouflage was originally developed to meet the need for an effective cover up that could be worn by patients directly after cosmetic procedures to camouflage the signs of intervention and promote a quick and comfortable recovery. Previously, all applications for post procedure skin care consisted of clear, petroleum based products whose only function was to stop the skin drying out. These were occlusive, comedogenic and offered no camouflage or therapeutic effect. Lycogel dramatically changed this and offered the only gel based cosmetic product that could be applied directly to the skin immediately after plastic surgery, laser, cosmetic injections and other result oriented procedures.

Not long after the introduction of Lycogel did feedback start coming in from Physicians that their patients were returning to purchase more of the product, not because their skin had not yet recovered but due to the unique finish and anti – ageing benefits. Also, people with sensitive skin types such as Acne, Rosacea and Eczema, who typically could not tolerate makeup found the comfort Lycogel offered them. Since then the benefits of this unique formula have been discovered by many around the world and found suitable for use as an everyday, skin improving camouflage with 30 SPF.

Benefits: Anti-inflammatory; Soothing; Anti-irritant; Cell renewing; Wound healing; Line minimizing; Smoothing; Moisturising.

Insulin, Inflammation and diet VS your skin!

13/01/2017

In the previous blog, I mention consistently high sugar levels will create consistently high insulin levels which leads to inflammation and ultimately breaking down your collagen. To slow down the insulin production, eat sugar with fiber, healthy fat (avocado, walnuts, coconut oil, etc.) and protein. Here's a great recipe to try for yourself!

Guilt Free Muffins - Serves 14

14 Medjool Dates

1/4 cup boiling water

1/4 cup plain greek yoghurt

3 eggs

2 cups almond meal

2 tbsp coconut oil

1.5 tsp baking soda

1 cup walnuts

1 can coconut milk

1 tbsp 100% pure maple syrup

Preheat oven at 150 degrees Celsius or 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Line muffin pan with baking paper.

Mix dates and boiling water in the food processor. Pulse the walnuts with dates once or twice

Beat eggs and coconut oil. Add dates and yoghurt to the eggs. Mix in the almond meal and baking soda Bake muffins for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Bring the coconut milk and maple syrup to a slow boil, stirring for 10 to 15 minutes until thickened.

Enjoy!

Skin Sugar Surprises!

11/12/2016

High sugar levels increase premature aging process in two major ways by increasing levels of insulin and products called AGES. Consistently high levels of insulin disrupt communication within your cells which leads to toxicity. This toxic process breaks down collagen (decreasing elasticity and increasing stiffness) and inhibits the growth of new collagen. The toxicity also plays a role in promoting new fat cell growth around the heart, liver and digestive organs.

High levels of sugar will also bond with protein to form AGES (Advance Glycation End Products). AGES cause inflammation alerting our immune system to activate RAGES which are special receptors for AGES to get rid of these unwanted products. This is a stressful process not only creating scar tissue inside our arteries but also breaks down collagen. The good news; with healthy eating, low sugar lifestyle and good skincare you can repair this damage.

So what is the daily recommended sugar intake in grams according to the American Heart Association? If one medium banana averages 14 grams of sugar, guess the recommended daily intake! Are you ready for this? Yes, 24 grams of sugar for women and 36 grams of sugar for men is the daily recommended intake. When you eat sugar, also include fiber, healthy fat (avocado, walnuts, coconut oil, etc.) and protein to slow down the insulin production. A lower sugar option would be 1 cup of mixed berries which is about 6 grams of sugar and loaded with antioxidants that is essential for repairing our damaged cells.

If you're not getting enough nutrients in your daily food intake, a great skincare routine will help repair skin damage. This brings me to one of the many reasons why I love the HydroPeptide skincare range as it’s loaded with botanical stem cells from fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants as well as full of over 60 peptides (think protein shake with amino acids for the skin) which are essential for collagen production.

P.S. UV Radiation will also cause AGES that will breakdown collagen, here's a great demonstration below:

The Sun, Wrinkles and Your Skin

09/11/2016

"Exposure to UVA and UVB rays from sunlight accounts for 90 percent of premature skin aging symptoms." Heather Brannon, MD. Please wear your hat, sunglasses and use SPF 30 that is labeled "broad-spectrum". UVA rays penetrate deep into the dermis causing damage to the cells. UVB rays only hit the surface causing sun burn. Your sunscreen must say broad-spectrum to protect you from both UVA and UVB rays!

If you're having a hard time finding a sunscreen that won't clog your pores and won't sting your eyes, I highly recommend HydroPeptide Solar defense (tinted moisturiser with 30 SPF, see HydroPeptide blog). If you'd like more coverage, Lycogel breathable silica with 30 SPF (see Lycogel blog) won't block the pores or sting the eyes and is also water proof, great for working out, swimming, surfing, etc

Getting Rid of Stretch Marks Before Bikini Season!

06/10/2016

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or micro needling breaks down scarred tissue by creating hundreds of tiny holes (think accupunture) in your skin that fills evenly with new strong collagen that has such a powerful tightening effect on your loose skin! CIT is a workout for the skin bringing pin point bleeding (nutrients) to the surface of the skin. This controlled trauma alerts our brain that there's an injury and therefore throws clotting factors, growth factors, collagen, elastin, enzymes, hyaluronic acid (all plumping actions) to the injury. On average, one may need 3 to 6 treatments (4 weeks apart).

Why is it so important to have a daily intake rich with antioxidants for our skin?

29/09/2016

Environmental factors such as sun damage, pollution, pesticides, chemicals in shampoos, body washes etc. all play a role in causing damage to the skin. This damage creates free radicals which are like unstable scavengers who take oxygen away from healthy cells to become stable. These attacked healthy cells in turn then become unstable . This continuation of destruction can lead to skin conditions, pre-mature aging and even many different forms of cancer. Protection of healthy cells is key to prevent celluar damage. Antioxidants from mixed berries, kale, green tea and roobois tea (a few examples) not only give oxygen to these unstable cells and repair the damage but also protect the healthy cells. Daily recommendation of antioxidants is at least 1 cup of fruit and 1 cup of vegetables. Choose a variety of bright colours for maximum benefits.

An interesting fact about our skin: it is the largest organ of the body however is the last organ to benefit from our daily intake of nutrients. For example, say you are consuming 2 cups of mixed berries, 2 cups of green tea and 3 cups of leafy greens along with your protein, whole grains, brown rice and good fats (fish oil, avocado, olive oil, ect). Sounds great right? Many of my clients confess they may eat well however drink only one cup of water a day. Water is the only method of transportation of nutrients from our blood to our organs. So its extremely important to eat well and drink at least 2L of water every day.

If you are having a hard time with your daily intake of nutrients and water, this will effect the health of your organs including your skin. Therefore I highly recommend a skincare range full of nutrients. Trust me, you will notice a difference in your skin.

Thats the reason why I love the HydroPeptide skincare range as it's formulation includes botanical stem cells from fruits and vegetables that have an abundance of antioxidants.
